UNDERSTANDING
Extended Hepatectomy
What is Extended Hepatectomy?
Extended hepatectomy is a specialized liver surgery where more than half of the liver is removed, usually including the entire right or left lobe along with part of the opposite lobe. It is recommended for large or complex liver tumors, cancers spreading across multiple segments, or diseases that cannot be treated with standard hepatectomy.
When is it Recommended?
- Large or complex tumors- When a tumor is so big or spread out that smaller surgeries cannot remove it fully.
- Multiple Tumors across Segments- Such as large adenomas or cystadenomas that cannot be managed otherwise.
- Cholangiocarcinoma (Bile Duct Cancer)- When bile duct cancers spread into adjoining parts of the liver and cannot be cleared otherwise.
- Recurrent Disease- For patients who have had prior surgery but developed new or recurring growths.
- Advanced Liver Cancer- In certain cases where the cancer involves both lobes of the liver and needs a more extensive operation.
Process of Extended Hepatectomy
Every patient undergoes detailed evaluation with scans and liver function tests before surgery.
During the procedure, the diseased part of the liver is removed with precision while preserving vital structures.
The remaining healthy liver gradually regenerates to take over its functions.
Post-surgery, our team provides close monitoring, pain management, and rehabilitation to support full recovery.
WHAT ARE

Restoration of Liver
Health
The surgery helps restore healthier liver function by removing damaged or obstructed areas.
Curative Potential in select cases
For carefully chosen patients, it can act as a curative treatment when no other option is effective.
